Most famous for his prominent roles in the Spider-Man franchise, Tom Holland is now a well-known and loved film star. He achieved success at a very young age, even making it onto the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list! Holland was diagnosed with dyslexia at age 7 and is still sometimes criticized for his spelling and grammar mistakes. However, he’s never let it get the better of him, and through patience and perseverance, he made it to where he is today.
Holland was born on June 1st, 1996 in southwest London. After his dyslexia diagnosis, he was sent to a private school, where he would get the help & attention he needed. He enjoyed going to the school, but it started to weigh on his family’s finances. He ended up being transferred to Wimbledon College and finished his education at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Growing up, he took an interest in dancing & gymnastics, which would help pave the way for his acting career.
Tom Holland made his screen acting debut with a leading part in the 2012 film The Impossible, a role which garnered a significant amount of praise and public acclaim. Since then, he’s starred in several other films, including Spider-Man, Uncharted, Chaos Walking, and The Devil All the Time. He’s also done voice acting for animated films such as Onward and Spies in Disguise. It’s safe to say he’s built an amazing career for himself, all the while struggling with dyslexia. When asked about how he learns and improves on the skills needed to be successful in his career, Holland explained that it all comes down to patience and preparation. In an interview with the YouTuber Jazlyn Guerra in 2021, he said that “It’s just about taking your time… giving yourself an appropriate amount of time to do the things you need to do. The better prepared you are for anything, the more you’ll be able to do and accomplish things that are fantastic.”
